Poll: 84% Support for Child Sexual Abuse Accountability Amendment

DENVER, COLO. — Justice for Abused Children called on state legislators to quickly refer the amendment to voters.

“Survivors deserve this. Children need this. Voters want this,” said State Sen. Jessie Danielson (D-Wheat Ridge). “This amendment will help victims hold predators accountable and any institution complicit in the abuse of children.”

As legislators weigh the proposed amendment, polling data offers helpful guideposts:

  1. Do you support or oppose amending the Colorado state constitution to allow survivors of child sexual abuse to sue their abusers as well as any institution who covered up their abuse?

  2. If your Colorado state legislator voted against allowing victims of child sexual abuse to sue their abusers, would you be more or less likely to vote to re-elect them, or does it make no difference?

The Child Sexual Abuse Accountability Amendment (SCR24-001) is sponsored by Sen. Jessie Danielson, Sen. Rhonda Fields, House Majority Leader Monica Duran and Rep. Mike Weissman. It requires a minimum two-thirds support in both state chambers to be referred; the amendment will then need at least 55% of the vote in November to pass.

The Rocky Mountaineer, a project of ProgressNow Colorado, was fielded by Global Strategy Group in late January, surveying 801 Colorado voters (MOE +/- 3.5%).
